Resolve to Winterize

Weatherstripping

Start 2018 right by making your home as energy efficient as possible with these 4 smart tips from Frost King.

  1. Identify Problem Areas: Schedule an energy audit to figure out the problem areas in your home, and the fixes you can make that will save the most energy (and money!).

  2. Heat on Schedule: Consider investing in a smart thermostat, which can automatically set your home’s temperature lower when you are away from home.

  3. The Hole Story: Check for air leaks around doors, windows, and cut-throughs for pipes and recessed lights. Fill any holes with a product such as Fingertip Rope Caulk, a high-quality caulking compound that you just press into place.

  4. Shut Out Drafts: An estimated 11% of your home’s energy can escape through drafty door Fortunately, weatherproofing your home’s entry doors is an easy DIY project you can finish in an afternoon with a few low-cost products from Frost King. Rubber Foam Self-Stick Weatherseal easily fills heat-leaking gaps between doors and door frames. To install, just remove the adhesive backing and press the strip into place. Weatherseal is available in a variety of sizes, so choose a width that allows doors to close properly.

Additional cold air can easily seep in through the base of the door, so block out drafts with a door sweep that seals the threshold, where the door meets the floor. To ensure you can easily open and close the door, align the door sweep so it just skims the threshold.
