How about Frost King Window Kits as a passive solar collector? This Frost King user has been experimenting with living off the grid for the past few years, and he's recently started using Frost King Window Kits to construct a makeshift Greenhouse attached to the main trailer.

In this case the Window Kits are used to keep the warm air inside the trailer's green house from escaping out into the cold winter. A quick and dirty fix to growing vegetables in the cold of winter. It's easy and cheap. Put it up in the winter, pull it down in the spring.
